My Cover Letter, April 2018
Dear Mr. Vernon Gray,
I am a grade ten student at W.H. Croxford, who is apart of the Visual Arts and Media Academy. I have been working on an independent project in the class over the last two months. I am interested in displaying my independent work at the Croxford Celebration of Learning on June sixth, 2018.
My independent project is a “lookbook,” which is a series of drawings of outfits. The outfits in the drawings are my own and are a further expression of myself as an artist. I have two ways to display the work, in a grid on the wall, alongside a coil-bonded book, and a great variety of different drawings to include. The continuity of the project can catch a passerby’s eye, as from afar they look very similar, but are in fact all different from each other. My project will be a great addition to the Celebration of Learning, as it will show viewers that different mediums of art can be mixed—even fashion and drawing.
If my proposal is of interest to you, you may contact me by email or in the VAM classroom. If you would like to learn more about my work and myself as an artist, you can visit my website at lkhooperart.weebly.com. There you can also see the progression of my project and what I have accomplished so far.
Sincerely,
Leah Hooper

My Independent Project Proposal, March 2018
For my independent project, I’m doing a series of fashion drawings to form a “lookbook.” This project will be titled, “An Artist’s Closet,” and this title will be on the front page of the book. The drawings will include a model wearing an outfit from my own closet, as well as a title for the look and swatches implying the texture and/or pattern of the material.
I am doing a lookbook because, since the summer of 2017 I have had an interest in fashion and I consider it to be just as important of an expression of myself as the other forms of art that I partake it. Because I use clothing artistically, I thought that it would interesting to recreate my outfits in drawings, sketching each detail of every garment and looking back at these outfits fondly.
The drawings will be done with alcohol-based Copic-markers in a semi-realistic style with shading and accurate colouring. The model is faceless and carries the same pose throughout the different pages. Each drawing takes roughly one to two hours, done sketch first, then lining, then colouring.
There will be two copies of each drawing, with one of each in a coil-binded book, and one of each displayed in a grid. The grid displayed copies (scanned and printed, not the originals) will be put up using either sticky tack or staples, and will not include the cover page that will go along with the book. When each drawing is completed, the drawings may be reordered so as to not have too many garments or other elements of outfits repeating side-by-side.
When this project is displayed I hope that it conveys to viewers that art comes in many forms and that these forms can be mixed. I also hope that it is evident that my preferences and style in art often show themself in how I dress. Art is important to me and shows itself through me in many ways, and I believe this applies to all artists—this is what I hope my project shows those who view it.
